Hey,
I formatted a win 98 machine and am trying to re-install 98 on it again. I have formatted, fdisked and partitioned correctly.
As soon as it finishes doing the sys check and loads up the UI for setup, it goes through the wizard to start the setup (not the actual set up). As soon as the wizard hits 100% the comp reads the cd, then goes to the floppy and tries to read it. This is then where it freezes and the floppy light stays on.
Troubleshooting so far:
1) Switched ide cables around in every combination that’s bootable
2)Copied cab files to c: and tried running it from c:
3) tried all the setup switches. /ntldr /nf /p f
4)Bashed head on keyboard several timesNothing proved useful except for number 4 which then kicked the computing.net url back into my head.
Any help would be appreciated.
Paul

I'm not sure exactly where you are encountering the problem, as I'm trying to picture in my head, and I'm in a real rush, but will try to offer a quick "try this".
Could it be it's stalling where it would be trying to create a startup disk? at your command prompt, type setup /?
Use the switch to disable the creation of the startup disk.Another idea, since your .cab files are on the hard drive; go into BIOS and disable the floppy drive; boot to the CD and try your install again either from the CD or the HD.
If I'm way off, post more, and I'll try to help you when I return from a service call...
loral
