Win 98 freezes during boot

Help...I have a system that seems to get "stuck " while booting up...I have tried an OS reinstall, booted in safe mode and disabled all start up programs and nothing works...during a regular attempt at normal boot, the system seems to lock up when the Windows 98 logo screen appears...any suggestions

A good thing to try is booting up in standalone Dos mode and type:
scanreg /restore
Restore the Registry to a date before the problem cropped up. You will have to redo any installs done sinch the restore date.

Tried it (scanreg/restore)..found a valid registry but still no luck ... any other thoughts

One other thing...while in the Dos screen I typed in c:/win to see if windows would launch and I got a himem.sys file is missing ..... any thoughts on this
