i got this compaq its pretty old anyways specs are amdk62 processor with 312 ram, it freezes at the splash screen but will boot in safe mode it started doin this after age of empires 2: The conquerors crashed and had to reboot the comp. sounds strange but does anyone have any idea

Try restore registry pure DOS:
scanreg /restore
If that fails maybe SFC can tell something from safe mode. Or do an overlay install (make sure to install to origional location).

Does the comp freeze when playing AoE or when windows is starting?

If its the latter then follow jubalsam's advice. If the freeze is with the game then response 1 may not help. Its an issue with the game installation, using improper crack etc...
