I had that problem before. Is your cd rom on the same ribbon as the HD or is it on its own ribbon?....also check if its on "master? on the back of the cd rom. I had 2 cdroms...1 was a burner and one a cd rom. It wouldnt show up but when i put one cd rom as a slave on the HD ribbon and got them seperated it was better.

try a couple different configuration like changing over to the other ribbon and sorry about being a little vague, I'm at work. Make sure its [cdrom]on Master if its on its own ribbon. If you have another burner or cd rom makes sure it is set as slave. If you move your cdrom over to the ribbon that has your hd on it make sure your HD is set as master and the cdrom as slave...hope this helps

Install the chipset update for your motherboard. After rebooting see if you still have the problem.

You may need to update the ASPI layer. Click here ASPI Download to go to the download page at Adaptec.

Hmm. Must have entered the link wrong. Go to http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/ and work your way ahead to the ASPI 4.71 download page.

Those ASPI drivers are here:

but unless it's a SCSI I don't see why you would need those drivers.

All CDROMs are SCSI. They are just adapted to IDE. My new TDK was quirky until I loaded the new ASPI drivers.
