Hi all,

Could someone give me some suggestion on how to fix my cd and burner drives?

Currently, I can load win 98 but E: and F: drives are missing, does not load up.

I have try to re-install win 98 by booting of the cd from bios, it didin't work.

I have try upgrading it by installing xp, it does not boot from the cd and goes straight into win 98.

I have always try add/new hardware, by uninstalling it and re-installing it, it didn't work.

I check the wires they seem to be correct.
Primary/Master : Hard-disk
Primary/Slave : None
Secondary/Master : cd-rom
Secondary/Slave: burner
?
Any suggestion will be helpful,
Marcus

So you are saying your BIOS detects the drives fine but windows cannot. If this is the case, goto device mananger and check for any problems there (yellow exclamation point). Post back what you find.

Hi Smith,

Under Device Manager, the yellow exclamation point is Secondary IDE controller. I tried removing and re-installing it, the cd drives are not back

Thanks,
Marcus

Have you tried to load your motherboard drivers? Those should have the drivers for your IDE controller.

You need to goto the manufacturer site of your motherbaord and get the drivers. If unsure of your motherboard, this site has some motherboard id tools:

See if this helps:

Do any of these drives work with a bootdisk with cdrom support?

If that doesn't work, disconnect one of the drives to see if you can get it working
