Friday night I decided to fix my husband's office computer.
I installed Tuneup Utilities, Adaware, Spyware Blaster, Spybot S&D, and Kaspersky Anti-Virus. I ran all the programs. There were many viruses and trojans on his computer.
When I rebooted and clicked on programs (in icons, in my computer, and in the start-up menu list), a box came up telling me to select one of the listed options to open the file.
Also, I cannot use the explorer browser, although I can use netscape. When I click on explorer, the box comes up telling me to select a file to open it with.
None of the options work.
Also, his email was fine until I checked it a second time, and now his inbox is gone -- disappeared, totally.
I ran anti-virus and deleted 2 more viruses in 7 locations.
I ran scandisk & defrag from the "run" part of the start menu.
Since I can't open any files, I can't run any of the programs I downloaded (anti-virus was in the system tray and I loaded it from there).
My next step is to run system restore, if DH can find the blasted disk.
Do any of you have any better ideas? DH is not very happy with me, to say the least!
Thank you,
Aileen

Also, I can download programs, but I cannot install them.
And I did run adaware, spybot S&D, spyware blaster and tuneup utilities before all this happened. I wonder if I deleted something important, but I can't get back to those programs to undo what I did.
Thanks again,
Aileen

EXEFIX08 `should' fix your inability to run programs. You can doownload it here:

Outlook Express should restore the inbox if it's missing. Of course it will be empty.
