Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm having a problem with my IBM computer (it's an Aptiva IBM). My computer was running too slow so I decided to get out the "Product Recovery" disk, delete everything and start over. So, I chose "Full Recovery" and it started Inflating and Extracting files. After a few minutes, the following message came up:
Appending information to Autoexec failed.
ERROR: Cannot locate C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\SYS.COM file.
99- An error occurred while files were being uncompressed.
A:\>At that point, I restarted the computer without the CD and it read:
Invalid system disk
Replace the disk, and then press any keyIt usually says that when a floppy disk is in the drive, but there is none! Now, I can't get into Windows 98 at all! All I can do is go back into that recovery mode with the CD in. Help!!! Here's my computer info:
Model: 2158-301
S/N: AF 28403
MFG Date: AN902
I have reason to believe that since my recently installed CD-Re writable drive is causing this problem, because occasionally it says "Not reading Drive G:(my printer drive) and i have to type R for RETRY to get it working again. I've tried everything from re-installing the BIOS to manually installing the file. Please help me!Jason Wall

hello there
I have an IBM aptiva 2158-500 and I run everything from windows 95 osr2 to windows xp on it. If your recovery cd is for windows 95, you need to apply a patch for amd k6 processors still available at microsoft.com. For windows 98, the recovery cd should load in one run, however, beware because IBM had to recall recovery cd's that were infected with a virus. If you can get your pc to its original OEM state, the recovery cd should run without flaws, otherwise, the other choice you have is to call IBM and ask to see if they can send you another recovery cd (I did and they responded favorably) or just purchase another OS and load it. Windows xp loaded really nice on this system without a glitch, so you may want to consider it.
hope this helps

try sanding the disk, it sounds like it has a scratch somewhere.
There are disk buffers available at electronics stores, try one of those

yeah...i think i have the same problem as jason...except its not an ibm...u see i recently bought this tower for 30 bucks from a friend thinking i can get a steal from him b/c i was gonna fix it up i was gonna delete everything to make the comp faster but i waited until my other friend could come to supervise me doing it b/c hes good at computers but my impaciant older brother thought he can solve the problem and started deleting stuff n now cant start the comp and it says "invalid disk system" please help me dont know how to get it working again.
