Hello All;
Does any one of you faced a problem operating the VGA Intel740 with Win 98.
The problem that I can only use the 640x480x16 resolution mode to operate, I am using the Asus P2B mother board, and PII 400
suppoted by 64 mega ram.
I had installed the win 98 over Win 95, does this matter ??Pls HELP??,
My old system 486/33 is smilying to meI should not change :))
Bye

Mohamed,
The reason you are only able to get 640x480 resolution and 16 colors can be because either one of three things:
1/ The drivers are not correctly installed,
2/ The resources the card needs to use are being used by another device.
3/ The card is not working anymore. You may try removing the card from your system properties menu and try installing new drivers from Intel's page (http://developer.intel.com/design/graphics/drivers/)
If you're still having problems after this, check the resources that the card is currently using. We have seen cases where the card will try to use different resources if it's default configuration is unavailable. Although it may change it's configuration, the card still may not work properly without it's default resources available. They are usually IRQ=11. However, not all AGP cards use an IRQ, so this is where it can get tricky.
We have not had any problems with the Intel 740 with Windows 98, so it 'should' work. If you are still having trouble, feel free to contact us, or take it in to a local repair shop.
Good luck.

My MB is SP-A586B UNICOM and the video card is Intel 740 AGP with 8Mb and not work properly on the games: Halflife, Heroes III, etc. My system are AMD K6-2 400MHZ and 32 Mb RAM.
Can anyone help me ???

I am experiencing major problems with my intel 740...I have the latest drivers (PV 4.0), yet the damn thing still locks up whenever i play 3d accelerated games, or use hardware acceleration

Just to say one more time: my Intel 740AGP 8Mb doesn't work in Win98 SE, only 16 colors available in 640x480 (i used driver ver 4.0 from Intel site.) Whatever my try it kicked me well.
Is there anyone can help in?

Ok i know what to do for that problem...
goto start-> settings-> control panel-> system->
now goto display adapter and it'll have intel 740 blah blah blah... then just click remove..
likewise, do the same in the unknown devices section
now...
intel has screwed up with its driver manufacturing... so goto control panel and click add new hardware. click display adapter, then click have disk... use the file gfx.inf there
there you are...prestoyet i still have trouble with 3d acceleration

there is a driver at VIA.com\index that enables amd chips to use intel 740 3d acceleration. So then u can run 3d games.
this happened to me aswell but i figured it out

After about a year of self research,
this is my configuration for i740 on a
socket 7...EPoX EP-MVP3Gm 1Mb Flash BIOS Motherboard
AMD K6-2 400Mhz
Fujitsu 64Mb 10ns PC100 SD-RAM
A-Trend ATG-7401A Intel 740 AGP with 8Mb.... and I am enjoying Rally Masters without any problems at all... :)

you can get a upgrades at: http://www.jaton.com/newsite/dd/v740.htm
in the future try out:

install the ali agp minidriver to your motherboard you can find this dirver on motherboard software the software comes along with the motherboard

My video card is Intel 740 AGP with 8Mb. I am trying to install Redhat Linux 6.0 into my computer, but it doesn't seem that it support my video card. Please help!

I had a lot of trouble getting my I740 to work under any OS at all, but eventually I put it down to the lack of VIA 4 in 1 drivers. In particular the AGP minidrivers and the IRQ routing drivers. These are available on your mobos CD, or at http://www.via.com Going into control panel, system, and removing the I740 from the Display Adapter heading, then installing VIA's drivers, and finally re-installing the vid card should get rid of most problems, including the 640x480x16 problem. All this hinges on whether or not you have a VIA motherboard though. Incidentally, the I740 works under 98SE, NT, 2000 and 95, but the OpenGL function is not available under NT or 2000.

I 've got the announce that the videocard isn't operating as it should but everything works perfectly under Win 98!
I haven't got any problems with my Intel 740 AGP!!!

I've read that someone had problems with his videocard under Linux but you should download a specific driver for the Intel 740 AGP!

Yeah, mine is working pretty well too. There's nothing wrong with the Intel 740 AGP driver. If you haven't installed this properly, chances are you didn't read the Video Card(AGP) manual. If you are using Windows 95 and 98 first edition, you should have installed the USB driver of your motherboard. If you don't have this driver, check the web site of your motherboard's manufacturer or try your luck at microsoft.com web site. Now if you are using Windows 98 SE and Windows ME, you don't need to worry about this USB driver. Because these two OS of windows have a built in USB driver. If you are using one of these two new operating system of microsoft, all you haev to do is to install the AGP driver of your motherboard. Again this driver disk came with your motherboard itself. If you don't have one, check for the brand of your motherboard and log on to their web site. It is most likely that you would find the AGP driver in their web site. Once you have followed the above directions, just go ahead and install the driver of your Intel 740 AGP card. After that you should be all set.Wilbert T.
