I will soon be upgrading a Duron 600 to a Athlon XP1800. I will be using a mobo with the same chipset (VIA) and made by the same company (Aopen) as the old one.

I have heard that as long as the manufacturer of the mobo and chipset match, there will be little problems. true?

What files in win 98 and win xp do I need to delete so that on startup the os will automatically search for drivers and periphials as a fresh os install would do?

I have my HD set up on a triple boot and all my files are right where I want them, so a reformat is NOT an option.

I don't mess with the windows registry very much, so any help is appreciated!
