It sounds like you do not have the format command on your bootup floppy disk. Do the DIR to see if you have the format command on yuor disk.

Hi,
Here's what you have to do:
Insert your Windows 98 disk, and make sure your computer is set up to boot off of a CD. Then restart your computer and when it coots from the CD, choose Start computer with CD-ROM support. From there you'll come to a command prompt. once there, change your drive to your CD-ROM drive. For example, if your CD-ROM is the D drive type D:. Once there, type CD Win98. This changes the directory to Win98, where your format.com is stored. Then type format C:. After that completes, then type Setup and setup will begin.
Good Luck,

If you want to do this the easy way, just rename win.com and then you can install 98 over 95 presto no format needed.
