Sorry for the long post.
On an IBM thinkpad running win95 and Office 97 I installed Office 2000.
Tried to open an access2k database but got an error message saying that an mde file was corrupt. Didn't get the name but it was in the Office folder. Couldn't open any mdb files I tried.
Did an office2k repair. Restarted machine but before before windows loads machine powers down.
Restarted in safe mode. Get to desktop (wallpaper but no icons). A dialog box appears entitled "Error starting program". But this dialog box is HUGE. I can only see a small part of it on the screen, it covers the entire viewable area. I can move the box partially to see the edges of a graphic or something like that. I can't close the box. Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't show any runnings apps.
There is nothing in the Startup Folder. The registry is too big to import to a txt file in DOS.
I have a restore disk but only works in windows. I'm in Europe, machine was imported from States. Could this be the problem. Think this might be a problem if reinstall the OS apart from the fact that I have no drivers for anything as all were on restore disk.
Any one got any ideas? My machine is useless the way it is.
Thanks.

So what is your question? How to fix Office, or about the HUGE window in Safe Mode?
The HUGE window is from video drivers not loading in safe mode, which is what is supposed to happen. So that part is working fine.
Restart your PC again in normal mode and you'll have your display back.As far as Office goes, you didn't say what happen after you did the Office repair. Though if that doesn't work, reinstall the entire program again.
Good Luck!

Thanks Jay,
My problem is that with a normal boot the computer powers down as soon as windows starts to load and in safe mode i have no desktop icons or start menu, just wallpaper and the "cannot start program dialog", so I cannot go any further. I cannot get rid of the dialog.
