Hello. I need to uninstall internet explorer and was thinking of using ieradicator; then I'll download IE and install it again. Will doing this also remove my Outlook Express? I can't lose my Outlook.
Thank you

Yes, Outlook Express is part of IE. However, you can export your address book and save you email database if you don't want to lose everything.
Just out of curiosity, what problem are you trying to solve by doing this?

That's what I was afraid of. I'm having a few problems. One is that when I click on a link to open a new window, the window is transparent and doesn't load. I also can't get Windows Update to work; I get to the point where it says it is downloading the updates but nothing happens. I thought it might have something to do with zonealarm so I uninstalled zonealarm, but that didn't help. I tried using the internet explorer repair tool and it says it could not be repaired. So I downloaded IE again without uninstalling, and ran setup, but I'm getting the same messages. It looks like I'm going to have to remove IE entirely but I don't want to lose any emails.
Also after uninstalling zonealarm I lost a file called vsdata95.vxd. I was thinking of just downloading zonealarm again since it doesn't seem to be the problem.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Take care

vsdata.vxd can be safely removed from the registry with no ill affects. Just search the Registry for that entry and delete it.

Reboot. No error message.

Hi. I don't mind having zonealarm as long as it doesn't cause problems. I just uninstalled it because I thought it might have been causing problems, but if it isn't I'm planning to download and install it again.
In raincheck's post above there are two links; if I click on them a new window opens but it is transparent and nothing loads; this is the main problem I'm trying to figure out. Does anyone know what would cause that to happen and how I can fix it?
Thanks again.

Hi. I can't load msscript.ocx...I'm getting an error message. The others were 'successful' but didn't change the problem. Where/how do I check if the registry entries it says to check are there/correct?
Thank you.

Hi. I got msscript.ocx and it loaded 'successfully'. I'm still following the instructions on the link you gave above, but don't know where to find these...

quote

"If the problem is still not resolved, verify that the following registry values are present and correct:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Name: (Default)
Value: IDispatch
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

Where would I look for these? I thought registry entries were all hkey, not hklm.
Help, anyone?
Take care

Thank you. The files are still there, so I've done what microsoft said to do and still have the same problems. Windows Update gets to the point where download starts, then nothing happens. And I can't open a new window when I click on a link; it brings up a transparent window and hangs.
Any other suggestions? I reinstalled IE. I don't really want to remove everything because I dread whatever I'll have to do with Outlook Express. Is there no way to keep Outlook but uninstall IE?

There was one thing I couldn't figure out; Microsoft said to go to control panel, then 'files and folders' and check file types for .js. I don't see any of this in control panel though so I don't know how to check.
Thanks

Try setting all your security settings in IE for the lowest setting.

If it works, you've got an Active X or Java scripting problem. But at leat you'll know.

Hi and thank you, but that didn't work. I don't know why I can't open another window. I don't know if removing IE will help or not, or if there is something else I'm missing. Would programs like zonealarm or a spyware removal program cause this? Any advise would really be appreciated.
Take care

Something else...the little icons at the bottom of the screen are different; they're both IE icons, but the ones that are fine are white with the blue 'e', and the new window that won't open is blue. I don't know if that means anything or not though.

I seem to have found a fix on another board where people were having problems with ctrl-f, transparent windows, liveupdate not working, etc. I'll copy/paste it here in case anyone else needs it. They're someone else's comments...

http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/Patch/1.0/WIN98/EN-US/mcrepair.EXE

im guessing thats where the link at macromedia leads as well

the instructions are pretty simple. download the exe, run it and when it prompts you to overwrite the files currently on your system, say YES and do NOT say NO.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
Take care
