OK, I have a hard drive with Windows 98 SE on it. And I downloaded Windows Server 2003 from Microsoft.com and burned it and installed it. And it was working fine, until I restarted the computer. It got to the log on screen and I logged on and it just stayed blank and didn't do anything for 2 hours so finally I just turned it off. OK so since the computer I was using that on the floppy disk drive doesn't work and I can't reinstall anything with a boot diskette. I went to this computer (floppy disk drive on this one doesn't work either) and this computer has a recovery CD so I took my hard drive and hooked it to this computer and ran the recovery program on it which formatted it and reinstalled Windows 98 SE. So then I took the hard drive out and put it in the other computer that I want to use. (This worked before without any problems) And I turn the power on. And it gets past the boot diagnostics screen where it shows how much RAM you have and everything and then goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor. And just stays there after 30 minutes it went to the Windows 98 boot screen and after about 30 more minutes it flashed like it normally does and displays the Windows 98 boot screen but then it just freezes and the blue strip at the bottom stops moving and I left that on overnight and when I woke up in the morning it still didn't do nothing. So I hooked it back up to this computer and it booted up fine and went to MSCONFIG and disabled all the start up items and tried it again the same thing happened. And this computer I'm using right now won't be here in a few days because I'm just borrowing it so I really need help on how to fix this. And keep in mind I don't have a floppy disk drive to boot from. But, possibly I can download the boot disk files and burn them to a CD. And see if I can boot from it.

Oh and my CD-ROM won't boot from like a Windows XP CD or Windows Server 2003 CD I don't know why though. But it will boot from a boot CD-ROM

Hi,
Is there a floppy disk device in the PC? If so check all the ribbon and power cable, for good connectons...You might try reversing the ribbon cable at the floppy drive..Red side of the cable, doesn't always go to the power side..Watch under the floppy drive, does the drive wheel always turn when you power up? If so the cable is backwards, at the drive..You need a floppy drive to install windows...Make sure your floppy boot disk works in another PC..Get a good win98SE bootdisk,at www.bootdisk.com....
Check in the bios if your floppy drive is the first boot..I usually set mine at Floppy Cd-rom,IDE-0....unless I wish a different first boot...Post back

The floppy disk drive doesn't work at all. It is hooked up right. It just doesn't work. But anyway I think that was just a messed up hard drive because I got a different one that I had and hooked it up to the other computer and ran that recovery program and put it on mine and it worked fine. Thanks anyway.
