Comment: ok guys got a question. a friend of mine has a dell that is giving her grief big time. it keeps telling her it is shutting down while trying to do a install on her new hard drive that she just put in. another friend sent her a compaq that is older than the hills and running on only 16 mbs of mem and a 75 mhz processor. she had told me she was having problems setting up the monitor to it but failed to tell me she had a LCD monitor instead of the vga monitor. question is can we get an adapter to use the LCD monitor on the old compaq and it work or does she have to have a svga video card installed in this computer for it to work. any ideas on either computer would be greatly appreciated. thanks Liz

Reply: (edit)There should be no reason why an LCD monitor shouldn't work. The one thing that will stop it is if the monitor only has a DVI connector. It sounds like this may be the problem. Unfortunately you can't convert VGA to DVI. Your only hope is if the monitor also has a VGA input. If it does, your friend might have a vga cable for the monitor. They frequently ship with both. Adding a video card with a DVI output would be a fruitless exercise. There'll be no AGP or PCIe slot. Even if you could find a PCI card with DVI out, I don't like the chances of finding a windows 95 driver.
