Has anyone else encountered a problem attempting to install a Netgear WG511 802.11g wireless card in their notebook?

The card can see several WANs. All it 'should' take to connect is select the WAN, set the encryption # bits/passphrase, then click APPLY.

Netgear support has been hopeless, they keep sending advice on how to handle the TCP/IP settings when my problem is that the card does not connect to the configured WAN. The green/amber lights show that the card is trying.

The encryption values are correct because if connected by cable with a 3Com there are no problems accessing the web.

My daughter struck the same problem with XP, and was told to run a utility called Wireless Zero and let Microsoft run things. That worked fine, but there is no such support for W98SE.

If there is no one with WG511 working, what 802.11g cards have any members here had success with?

Thanks

Which wireless router are you using? The Netgear sites mentions making sure the router is configured for G, not B/G.

It is only G, and proven by my old 802.11b card being unable to connect (doesn't even see the network).

Here's an important question I find best to ask when dealing with Wireless.

Can you access un-encrypted networks?

If the answer is no then you have a bigger problem than what it could be.
