Both the old monitor and the new one(for the past 2 weeks anyway)displayed the usual black background behind my bootup screen, etc. as always very black, black....but just yesterday, it is a "faded" very dark grey. And the colors are not as sharp and colorful as before either.
What could cause this to happen all of a sudden? I haven't messed with my video card for weeks. I cheched my display settings and the are the same they've always been.

Just a thought: check your monitor cable connection to the display adapter.
I’ve had “off color” occur when the connection was loose.
I’ve also seen this when my display adapter shifted in the AGP slot from the torque applied to it by the monitor cable.

the cable is tight to the video car, which is set screwed tight to my case and motherboard slot.
The computer has not been physically moved a quarter inch in a week.
What else could it be?

Hi Joe, Try to change the settings on you monitor. In my case if Brightness is turned to high it gives me that gray colour that you mentioned, also check the contrast. Good Day.

Ok, I'll do that when I get home in a few hours(at work now)
But with nobody home to mess with the controls, what would make them change "by themselves"(assuming that is the problem)?
