Is it listed in either Device Manager or in Control Panel/Modems?
Is it onboard or a seperate (PCI) card in a mobo slot?
What is the HP Model number?
It's a good day when you learn something

How do you delete a modem "by accident"?
You obviously have to reinstall the software/drivers that you deleted

Did you try an 'add new hardware' search from control panel?

I assume you "accidentally" removed the modem software, not the modem card itself. If you restart your computer it should "find" it again and now you have to re-install its driver. Or, try going to control panel-system-device manager and there should be an entry such as "PCI communications device" with a yellow question mark. Or, try going to control panel-add new hardware and windows should find the modem for you. One final trick is to remove the modem card, restart/ then shut down the computer, put the card back in and re-start. Again, windows should "find" the card. Also again, you will have to re-install the modem driver. If you are very lucky, windows will be able to recover the original driver and install it for you.
