i deleted explorer with some numbers after it in control panel and it still came up so yahoo wasnt working so i redid windows install and i still dont see explorer in control panel(well i see it but its listed without some number after it i think} then i deleted yahoo and it still says on startup a dll file is missing - i deleted it!!?
maybe i just need the service pack
i cant stand going to microsoft site- its slow and takes forever!!
maybe i have all the updates still
but what do you think of yahoo? i think its sort of sick

You have boogered that installation up so bad that you need to format the drive and reinstall Windows. You will waste a lot of time IF it can be salvaged at all.
Be careful what you delete.
You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users

you should use uninstall to remove the program you do not want anymore, if you just do the deleting you are not removing ALL the files of the program that is why yahoo is still trying to start up. I also belive the IE with the number after it, is the service pack of the IE that is installed.

I can't make much sense of this description:
"i deleted explorer with some numbers after it in control panel". What made you decide to do this?Avoid deleting things, unless there is a proper facility provided. Leave files well alone unless they are ones you put in yourself. If in doubt, seek advice first.
If you were trying to Uninstall IE then you need a program to do it. IE and Windows are very much interlinked. You probably now have registry entries pointing to various missing files.
The minimum fix you "might" get away with is to get the latest cumulative IE Update. If you still want to try fixing it piecemeal then you need to know the name of any dll it is asking for. My W98SE (for example) has 2941 of them, so it's not easy for us to guess which one you mean.
