where is "america.exe"?

everytime i download a program or application and try to run it, i get an error method that says i need america.exe.
i would like to know wah thtis does and if i really need it and if so where can i get it.
very confused

Q: When I click on a file I get a message telling me "Cannot find America.exe".
A: Technically, what has happened is that a program was installed on your computer that modified the "file association" for the file type you are trying to view. This "America.exe", whatever it is, is now apparently gone from your computer but the disturbance to the file associations remains. The source and purpose of "America.exe" is a mystery. We made some web searches concerning this but have turned up nothing. Several of our users have tried to identify what they might have installed that would have caused this but, thus far, no one is 100% certain. Perhaps a screen saver of some type?

Write support@funduc.com if you know the source and purpose of America.exe. Decode Shell Extension does not attempt to modify or fix windows file associations. We will not add any such function to the program. We are just curious.

just for the heck of it..
Just looked for it on symantecs virus pages! No listing for it! so I wouldnt worry! just try to find it in your Registry /export it to a folder and DELETE IT! doesnt appear to belong anywhere? or see if there any reference to it in WIN.INI or SYS.ini and uncheck it! good luck!DONT FORGET TO BACK UP!

AOL should know - considering it is one of their files offered for download. Just type "america.exe" in the address bar and click search. A download screen appears.

It is also listed at their Brazilian site dated May 98.

Not sure what the file is for (can't read Portuguese). An old AOL program maybe.

I have the same problem. When trying to reinstall the freetel pgm, the setup says I need the "america.exe." so now what do I do? The file is no longer there, did a file search, but the "setup" is gone from the freetel and I dont have the disc any longer..
Help !!!!!!!

I cant download aircraft for Microsoft Flight Sim98 and i need that STUPID WORTHLESS file to have fun :-(

dont worry about america.exe., find a file to download called winzip.exe. this will solve all of your america.exe. problems. try www.winzip.com and see what happens!!!!!

Everyone relax. (.ps) is a UNIX file type, not viewable on a Windows PC, thus unrecognizable on your Tandy. UNIX platforms are availble from Sun Microsystems for about $20,000 a pop. Break open your piggybanks.

I recently did have the trojan virus on my computer. I had to delete a bunch of stuff to remove it. Now for some reason, I've been having this problem where I try to view pictures and a screen pops up saying I don't have america.exe. It says I can't open TIF Files. I'm not sure what to do. And I tried winzip and it doesnt seem to work. I'm lost

To open a file with the extention .tif
1.Open Internet Explorer
2.Go to the dropdown menu and click open.
3.Browse for your file.
4.Make sure you can view all of the files not just HTML.
5.Highlight the file then click open.
6.then click ok.
7.Whenever it says it cannot find this America file just click cancel.
8.Open the file in its current location.

"Thats it you should be able to view your picture now....I want $100,000 Dollars in small unmarked bills....LOL or a postcard or picture would do just Fine"

Winzip 7.0 is the program needed to open .mim files. Very simple, just go to winzip.com and download the 7.0 version. That's it!

response #16 is good. Open file while on aol or compuserve and then choose to save it as a .bmp Then you can open it as a bmp file and not an america.exe file

Response #31 works also. Go to http://www.nichibenren.or.jp/iinkai/tokubetu/data/ and choose america.exe and then you have the option to download it.

Okay, this "America" file has NOTHING to do with the AOL software.

The most important thing you can do is look at the extension of the file you're trying to open.....is it a PDF file? Then it's a file that can be opened by ADOBE ACROBAT READER. Go to their site to DL it (www.adobe.com).

If you aren't sure what a file type is, go to http://whatis.com to find out.

Wheew !!!! I sure am glad, I found this site.I have been going crazy thinking that I was too dumb to find the file america.exe,cause I thought I had it at one time,.. and apparently did'nt ! I have also downloaded winzip, but that was no help and I can't get aol to reply to my e-mail concerning this america.exe. What is wrong here? They sent me a survey saying that I had help by telephone but I have spoken to no one.
