5 minutes ago my sound was working. Now I can't here jack crap; I checked the sound card to see if any damage nothing. I then checked to see if it was pluged in, nothing wrong there. I turned off the computer and restarted it. No results. I unpluged the everything waited 2-3 minutes and tried. Nothing happened. This sounds like a problem that can only be solved with experience. Could someone please help me? I have a Compaq 5000 Windows 98 SE/ 64 MB Ram/15 Gig. HD. God I am sick of typing!!!!

OK....does your cd-rom play sound ? I´ve come across the same problem a couple a days ago: CD-music works fine/but no windows sound ! Yep this is on a compaq laptop(armada) I´m gonna have a serious look tomorrow and if i can sort it ill post some crap here... IF you find the prob...just post back...here...Good luck....

Check to make sure your sound controls are not muted in VOLUME CONTROL.

Please don't be insulted by this, but this happened to me once.
By any chance do your speakers have a Mute button? If so, make sure it was not accidently depressed.
