Does anyone know what TCP/UDP port(s) the new version (4.5) of MSN Messenger uses? I need to know for port-mapping purposes with ICS. Thanks in advance.

Lovely link that completely avoids answering the question.

Anyone know what TCP/UDP ports are used by MSN/Windows Messenger 4.5?

I found the following article regarding Windows Messenger 4.5. I expect it's the same. Basically the port addresses are: (from page 20 of the doc)
To enable voice and video communications with Windows Messenger through a non-UPnP firewall, configure the firewall to allow incoming traffic on UDP ports 5004 – 65535.
For other purposes, enable the following ports:
• File Transfer: 6891 (to allow 10 simultaneous file transfers open ports 6891 through 6900)
• Application and Whiteboard Sharing: 1503
• Remote Assistance: 3389

Hope that gets it for you... William

I have a linksys hub and router that connect 4 different computers in my network. All have MSN messenger and none of them can transfer files through the router. I can transfer files between the computers on the network but not with someone OVER the internet. In the previous response it is suggested that I configure my firewall to allow incoming transmissions to be received on ports 5004 – 65535 and then configure the other ports for file transfer, etc. Are the other ports also supposed to be UDP or are they supposed to be TCP? Or should I leave them as both. In any case, I've configured my router to the specifications in the previous response but I still cannot transfer files. Microsoft and Linksys say it is because of the NAT type firewall the router uses. I know that I've made this work before but cannot remember what I changed. Can anyone help?

if anyone comes back to this post, here it is! I have gome to linksys.com and updated my firmware to 1.39 it will give you an option to DMZ. This feature sets a local user to be exposed to the Internet. Any user on the Internet can access in/out data from the DMZ host. Enable the feature as you wish to use special-purpose service. I set this and got access to file transfer but still get errors! When I file transfer it works on small files, however if you transfer a 300k file it loses connection and tells you that the connection was blocked! ???? wtf I still have no voice over my linksys router/hub befsr41 any idea's for a solid workaround for this issue!
