Comment: Hi I need to install a driver for my modem and selct what kind it is. I have a used computer and the software is not with it. Windows doest know what kind it is. Does anyone know how I could find out? Also, I need to change the "port" location for the modem to "com2" ??? Dunno, but thats where the setup paper I did get says the modem is located. The box has "printer port" selected and the drop down has no other options. TY to anyone for any help you can give. (-:

Reply: (edit)You need to physicaly pull the modem out and look for a FCC-ID number, then go to the above URL and search for it.......

Reply: (edit)Go to START-SETTINGS-CONTROL PANEL,DOUBLE CLICK ON SYSTEM THEN GO TO DEVICE MANAGER,find MODEM -DOUBLE CLICK and the modem name and model should appear,You can then highlite it and click properties to give You more info such as Drivers installed.Good luck.

Reply: (edit)Once you get this computer up and running properly again, follow some of the advice in your previous post and it will tell you the name of all your hardware. Then write it all down so you have it safely stored somewhere. Some of that advice is under MrKlattu (spelling) post because that is where you attached your post to before.

Reply: (edit)Hi, TY I found out what kind of modem it is..took the cover off..now I have to figure out how to make it get found or put in the right port or something..the mouse is in "com1" and the modem doesnt show up. Its a amquest. I went and got a driver for it from driversguide, also got winzip, but i unzipped the driver and nothing happened..is there something else I need to do?
