I'm running a Win98 SE computer.
When I open the file CONFIG.SYS, located in my C: drive root directory, it shows only one entry:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\setver.exe
1)What is the function of this 18.4 KB file named Setver.exe, located in my Windows directory?2)What would happen if I were to delete the entry from CONFIG.SYS, making it a 0 byte empty file?
3)What would happen if I were to delete CONFIG.SYS altogether?
4)What would happen if I were to delete Setver.exe?
Thanks for your helpful reply.

setver.exe solves the problem of outdated
files not working with your current os
without it you'll most likely get an error
such as "wrong dos version" ,when any of these
are accessed.
you can rename config.sys to config.bak reboot and see what your pc acts like without
config.sys
probably will have to do this from a bootdisk
change to c: and type ren config.sys config.bak and to change it back ren config.bak config.sys
