OS: Windows 98 SE, Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Celeron 850 MHz, 128 MB S

Ok, since i upgraded to a Celeron 2.4 GHz operated platform, I have serious problems with my Windows98. I already posted similar help request ( http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/154822.html )and people replied that it is most probably my RAM - Windows98 hates big amounts of RAM. OK, i did all the necessary things to solve the imaginary RAM problem - no result. It's not the RAM.
A guy gave me a tip by replying to my previous message (thank you, jboy) and claiming that Windows98 can't work properly on platforms with more than 2.1 GHz CPU clock speed.
I just want to know: What is the CPU clock limit in Windows98? If it is 2.1 and my CPU is 2.4, then may this be the problem?
Any links and info much appreciated.
Thanx guys!

Not so much a claim as a vague memory of reading it in a post quite a while back ; )

Hope someone can say one way or the other - I'll try and see if I can find a reference.

Here is a link about a NDIS problem with a speed of more than 2.1 ghz, and a fix for Win98. It may or may not solve your problem.

That's it - just found it myself a minute ago.

Doesn't seem applicable, that's a fairly specific error, and for 98FE.

Got to be something else, sorry Vlad.

Vladimir,

Did you try limiting the amount of RAM to be used to 384mb just to rule it out?

OK dudes, i think that i got the problem fixed (not that you care much but still listen)
It's not the amount of RAM, it's the RAM FREQUENCY. I used to run two 256 RAM modules on 400 MHz. Now I run them on 333 and untill now I don't have any fuking problems (luckily). The machine runs as smooth as old whiskey, he he...
PLUS - it does not exhale hot air anymore. It cooled down dramatically. Apparently the high RAM frequency has caused loads of problems including overheating of CPU, MB chip and power supply.
Thanx for your support!
