Windows 9X uses Taskmon.exe to monitor the useage of applications so that when defragmentation is done, the supporting files are place near the executable program. The information that Windows gathers is stored in a hidden folder \WINDOW\APPLOG. The files will have the same name as the application, but with the extension LGC. These files may be opened and viewed with a text editor such as Notepad. In order for the Windows defrag to work to the best advantage, it is necessary to have TASKMON.exe running in the background.
When you 'three finger salute' your system (i.e. ctrl-alt-del) taskmon brings up a list of apps presently running.... Hope this is of use..
happy computing!

The ctl-alt-del is NOT Taskmon. The rest of the info is correct.
