I was using Internet Explorer to surf a site and came across this weird message:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'
Type mismatch: 'CLng'
/bin/n_libBase64.asp, line 161

What does this mean?

But how come this error doesn't happen on some of my other friend's computers? BTW, this error only happens with one particular site (www.courses.nwu.edu); however, it seems as if my other friends do not encounter the problem. Could it be because something is wrong with my java program?

Doesn't have anything to do with Java, I don't think.

The reason you get this message and your colleagues don't, may be for one these reasons:
1 - Different browsers (or version)
2 - this one more likely: you have your settings Advanced [Internet Options] or Security [Internet Options] set differently.

There likely IS an error in the script, but your colleagues are simply not alerted to it. When you get this message, is there an option to contiunue processing and an option to "Do not show this Dialogue Box any longer" (or words to that effect)?

Try changing IE settings... under Tools>Internet Options> Advanced make sure that 'Disable script debugging' is checked and that 'Display a notification about every script error' is unchecked.

For what it's worth Ben you did better than me. I just got a blank white page. If I knocked off the .edu at the end (to go back up the site) it just said error.

Hi Ben

I just tried your site and it came through fine. I have IE6.

Was wondering what version of IE you are running and also if your friends are running same as you.

Check this site. It explains your error and also a fix.

Thanks everyone for the responses. My friends and I are using the latest version of Internet Explorer. I have tried everyone's suggestions to no avail. AA, there is no option to not show dialogue boxes. Cheryl, thanks for the link but the proposed solution seems kind of confusing. What code should I be altering?

Hi Ben

Well now. What I am going to do is give you a further site and it's on programming, specifically jscript in case you want to read more.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/script56/html/vtoriMicrosoftWindowsScriptTechnologies.asp?frame=true

Jscript is embedded in windows and I wouldn't have an idea how to help you in this regard, other than to try the easy way out.

Have you done the new windows update for IE6? It's the new SP1 and is extensive. Who knows, it might have what you require.

If not, I am sure some of the more technical people on this forum can assist you.

Good luck Ben.

Slipping here Ben. Please check on the left side of your screen, under programming. I'm sure someone there can help you.

I have users reporting that they get this same error,

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'CLng'
/bin/n_libBase64.asp, line 161

visiting some pages on my site, and
we haven't got any vbscript in the pages AND
we're not using ASP at all.

So I'm baffled. All I can think of is that
the user has some kind of Browser Helper Object and/or Spy-ware kind of thing that is
executing some stuff with his browser that is unrelated to our site.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

If you happen to pop back, save that website you mentioned then change the .htm file to .txt

It makes interesting reading.

The reason I couldn't get onto that page originally is that it is script and my security settings were set too high to allow it. It is a page re-direct to this:

Northwestern University Course Management System

... me yet again.

Check your script settings in IE, there may be a problem there.

I have "disable script debugging" checked in my IE5 in Advanced tab.

Your security settings will also affect this. There are script options in my IE5 under "Custom".

Sorry, I know nothing about IE6.
