What the heck are these oem*.inf files that sometimes build up in my inf folder. And why do I have to delete the zero length oem*.inf files for certain installations to work?

.INF file are information files by software vendors. They provide the info required by your system to install (the software) properly. Use notepad to open one and you'll see the same basic structure of your config.sys or system.ini file. Sorry, don't know about your second question.

Just a quick question so I can give you a better answer. Are you running any Norton utilities(such as Disk Doctor....)or Windows ME?

Yes, I do have norton systemworks and windows me (oops wrong forum). And I found the microsoft web page which vaguely addresses this incompatibility between systemworks and windows me, but I have not been able to find a patch yet. I also contacted symantec - hopefully one of the companies will come up with a fix. Thanks for the replies.
