Running Win 98 166mmx with 2 gig on Hard drive C (550mg left) and 2 gig on Hard drive D (1.8mg left).
What are the benefits of defragmenting the Hard Drives?
Have had a few problems with my computer but everything is fixed now.
Am concerned that if I defrag the Hard Drives then links may be lost and my computer won't work properly.

Defragging helps in faster program startup's on the HDD. Defragging is nothing but, getting together all the broken parts of a file. You should defrag atleast once in a week. Use tools like NU and Vopt for quicker defrag.

you should also defrag with the virtual memory off because windows is always wreading and writing here, and do this (defrag) in safe mode
