Comment:

Whenever I open the display properties I am greeted with the message "CoCreate Instance Failed -- ClassFactory cannot supply requested class."
Then I click OK and it brings up the display properties... very weird, what is it?

I get a very similar message :
"CoCreate Instance Failed - Class not registered". In my case I had just installed a new video card. I had remove my G200 & Voodoo2 and replaced them with a Voodoo3 3000. Of course I got NO response from 3dfx tech support on the problem!

To any Voodoo 3 guys:

Delete all files in the windows system subdirectory that begin with mnstr. These are old Monster Voodoo 2 files and one of them causes this error. Type in mnstr in find under the start button to easily search for these files.

Good Luck!

I also had the error: "CoCreate Instance Failed" when clicking the desktop and trying to access properties. Cancelling the message would allow me to continue. I had recently installed my Diamond Monster II drivers. The drivers were still installed but the tab for my driver settings was missing on the properties dialogue. I simply reinstalled the drivers and my tab reappeared and the error message was gone.
BTW - Thanks for the tip, I would not have noticed that my tab was missing had it not been for the talk about deleting the monster drivers from the system files.

Thanks again,
D. Christie

This message is also caused by downloading a program known as "NETSONIC". The program sucks anyway and I unstalled it.

I've got the same message appearing and the same probable root cause. I just upgraded from a welded on ATI AGP video card to a PCI Voodoo3 2000 and found this little gem seemingly included as a bonus (i.e., instead of a free game). I try to ignore it, but...

When the cocreateinstance failure occurs after loading yahoo instant messenger, the fis is to load or upgrade Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or 5. The software is looking for a file from that. You don't even have to run MS Internet Explorer - Just Upgrade It. You can download it from Microsoft. I loaded it when running a CD that I got with photos that I had processed at walmart. Appears to be a crazy solution, but, it works.

I got Yahoo messenger to start working by installing Internet Explorer like Russ stated. It gave an error message when I quit, however. This was fixed when I installed MS Word '97, which I bought at a garage sale for $3. I am using Win95 upgrade from Win3.1.

For those having problems with Yahoo CoCreatinstance for the My Yahoo dll try this:
download from the following URL
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/msvbvm50.exe
- A pop-up dialog box will ask to save the file.
- Make sure that the "save in" area reads "Desktop".
- Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window.
- When the download is finished, close all open programs.
- Find the file icon on your desktop and double-click it to begin the installation
- For each new window of the installation, just click on the "Next" button until you get to the end, which says "Installation Completed", and then click on the "Finish" button.

Once the installation is finished, reboot the computer. Yahoo! Messenger should work properly now. If not, please download Messenger again and reinstall it. There is no need to uninstall first. To download and install again, please go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/ and click on the link that says "Windows" under Quick Download.

Be sure to save the file to disk, AND save it to the desktop so that it will be easy to find. To save the file to the desktop

1. Click "Yes" when prompted to save the file to disk. A window will appear asking where to save the file.
2. Click the little yellow folder with the up-pointing arrow at the top of this window until it reads 'Desktop' in the white field.
3. Click the Save button.

When the download is complete, exit your browser and all other programs. Locate the downloaded file on your desktop (in our case, ymsgr.exe) and double-click it. This will launch the installation process and allow you to use the Messenger.

During the Installation process, you will be asked to enter your Yahoo! ID and password. Just enter the same ID and password that you use for other parts of Yahoo, or if you do not have a Yahoo ID, click the button that says "get a yahoo ID".
