hi

im jsut wondering, i play badminton for my county squad, i am only 17 and they have asked me to create a WebSite for the countys badminton. i have already started making it, and im nearly finished, jsut fixtures and info to go on then im sorted.

all i am wanting to know is, how do i upload them onto the internet?? i have made 2, one about my local town, which i never got on the net because i cudnt be bothered to find out about how to do it, and this one.

i really need to know how to do it, so if someone knows, can ya tell me how, or where i can go to be able to do this??

thanks

First thing you need to do is select a web hosting service. They will create a directory for you on one of their servers, and give you the URL for your site.

Then they will be able to show you how to upload files to that site. Most hosting services are a little different, but the majority simply have a link saying "upload file", and when you click on it, it will prompt you to search , windows explorer style, your computer for the file you want to upload. It's actually very easy once you do it once or twice!

There are many free hosting services, if you don't mind banners. Otherwise, you will have to pay a few dollars a month for banner-free.

Just do a search on Google, or on your local search page, there are thousands out there to choose from!

OK... you're going for the deluxe edition LOL. First thing you need to do is register the Domain name. (There are several good places to do this cheaply, I used Register.com, personally. You can do a search for DOMAIN REGISTERING on the web, and find the site that has the lowest cost)

You will need to pay for the domain name.

Second, in order to use a domain name, you will need an IP address. Most web hosting companies will give you an IP address to use for your site, but that will cost a few dollars, too.

Third, for e-mail, it's a few dollars more, but the place where you registered yoru domain name (in my case www.register.com), there is an option to have your domain mail setup and forwarded, so you can setup your Outlook to retireve it. They will walk you through setting that up.

There ARE programs out there that will let you set up the e-mail stuff on your own, but they are pretty complex, espeically for someone still getting the hang of things. And since you are doing it for a group (that I'm assuming) is willing to absorb the costs of having their site on the web, I'd just as soon let the domian service handle the e-mail stuff!

Oops, skipped a part:

After you sign up with a web hosting service, and get an option to have an IP assigned to you, write down the IP address they give you.

When you register the domain name, it will ask you the IP address teh web site is hosted.. put in the IP address your hosting co. gave you, then when you put in your www.xxx.yyy site address, it will go to the right place, and load your site!

LOL, I'm in the IT department too. I just claim that this is a legitimate site for our field.. the boss accepts it =)

You could very easily overwrite the other web site, assuming you can get the passwords, ect. Problem is you will still be using the same domain name...

i that will be alrite, cos a lot fo people already have that addy, so it wud prob work out better!!

if i told my boss that he would sack me! lol good job im the only one in today out of our department :)!! one is on holiday and the other is moving house,(who is also the OWNERS son! lol gotta watch out there eh)

he is a bit of a to*ser (pardon my french/german ;)) but the other one who is like the person who is teaching me, he is spot on like, have a good laugh with him!

so if i can get hold of the passwords (which i MITE have) then i can change these files over? the new ones on the net? etc etc. is that easyier than doing it the other way or harder?

much, MUCH easier to just overwrite the files.

The old homepage will probably be named "Default.html".. you will just name your homepage the same thing, and upload it. Then when somone goes to that addy, your homepage will load. Then you just have to upload the other web pages, and make sure the links you use are good, and you are done!
