After 5 minutes research, here is my nonexpert stab at this:

"ASP for database connectivity and querying"

I think the crux is
1)The page is not static so there is going to be some retrival of information from a database or running of an application on the server
2)It is an alternative, an innovation or improvement, to using java or cgi that works with various Microsoft software
