Can someone hijack your usb webcam while in a video conference? I think this may have happened to me. I recently joined a free chat supplier. Someone asked if I could send them video. I did. But my system froze up and there was a file on my C: drive that was not there before: C:\capture.avi. If I have been hacked what should I do to make sure everything's OK. I already ran a virus scan and came up negative.

Delete the capture.avi file, if the hacker put some kind of surveilence software on your computer then you might be able to remove it with Spybot S&D. No matter how you get on the Internet, be it broadband or dial up you need a firewall. Once your Internet connection is open it is open for all unless you protect yourself.

The capture.avi file is not a virus. Something you did caused a capture from the camera and created that file. You can play it with the windows media player.
