I downloaded Winamp and now my wav files will not play. I tried to edit the file type but it said that it was used by winamp and I can't find anything else to delete.

Try this,
Hold down the shift button and right click on a .wav file. Choose "open with.." .. click the box to always open with, and choose mplayer from the list.

I didn't quite get it... Are you trying to open your wave files with Media Player and it won't play them? Will Winamp play wave files? You changed your file association during installation of Winamp in this case. Try to associate them with Media Player again.

When installing any program it is important to read everything rather than simply slamming the "next" box. When Winamp asked you if it should be the default player for all associated files you answered "yes" and thats exactly what you got.

Go inside Winamp. I've been there but not sure how (I'm at work now). Look in preferences. Find a list containing a bunch of horses heads. Here you will find the list of files that will default to Winamp. Uncheck the ones you wish.
