Help! I get the message that there is not enough free memory to run defrag in W98! I have tried closing programs running in the background, tried changing the virtual memory - no luck! Any ideas?

your drive may have errors on it. run scandisk. reboot the machine into safe mode and run scandisk. when finished, run defrag again while still in safe mode. it may take a little while to get past the 10% mark but hang in there.

Just how full is the ole hard drive ? "IF" you have only 1 hdd and it's nearly full windows may not have enough Virtual memory to do a defrag try emptying the recycling bin and deleating any temp file find files *.tmp *.log and deleat them then get rid of bmp/jpg/progs you never use reboot and try it
