Hey All ... I realise this is a bit of a tough one....
I dual boot W98 and NT4 WKS. NT4 boots fine, but win98 now blue screens and says i have a Memory Parity Error and halts the system. Checking the bootlog.txt, the last line is: initing esdi_506.pdr - it dies before this is successfully loaded. I know this file has something to do with IDE HD support. I can load W98 in safe-mode, but can't think of what to adjust.
Thanks in Advance... Chris

Howdy, there is a good chance you have a bum stick of memory. Safe mode doesn't load extended memory which could explain why safe mode is loading fine. Parity errors normaly only registry when its a hardware problem and not software. It might not be the memory but I would have it checked and if you really think it has something to do with the bus mastering drivers try reinstall them.

Laters,

Kevin The Tech Dude.

Thanks Kevin, but I don't think it is a hardware memory problem as NT4 continues to load fine - it's normally a LOT more fickle!!

JR, what are you on about. Of course NT and 98 can dual boot, its even part of the MCSE exams. What s---e were you reading. 95 and 98 can't dual boot, you have to put them in differernt partitions and revert to 95 , but its not really a dual boot. Everything else is fine. Win 2k can have a 6 boot lineup!

Chris, I would look into the IDE Controller drivers under win98. It sounds like they may be currupted. Delete the ENUM from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the registry and relaod all the drivers.
