I hope this question isn't silly, but I'm a 60 yr old Grandmother who needs a bit of help.
I've had ETrust Antivirus on my 98 machine this past year. Now it's time to upgrade but the system requirements show it's good for W98SE. I was told that I can still use the 2006 upgrade but I'm not sure if I should. I don't want to buy it and have my system crash etc. I'm not very technical about fixing anything on here.
I know I need a new system but I just want to have something running until I can do that.
Thank you.Judy

I can't see any reason for the newer version to cause problems. According to Computer Associate's site, they are still offering the 2005 version. This means that the 2006 version has yet to be released for public scrutiny.
You may not be aware that there are free ativirus products available. While they may not be quite as good as the paid products, they do come close and are definately secure enough for home use. They are;
AVG free, Avast and AntiVir.Personally I use AVG on all my computers except my laptop (I frequently use that within corporate networks including financial institutions).

If you can still get the virus updates, I wouldn't bother upgrading. The virus updates are the important thing. Upgrades can turn out good or bad.
If you decide to upgrade, make sure you keep the install program for the old version, just in case.

My virus updates run out this week and I have to upgrade to the new version - that's the one that says it's for 98SE -and that's what concerned me.
I had AVG two years ago and loved it; but when they came out with the new version there were problems with 98 so I bought EZTrust. I will check the free ones out again.
AND - get that new computer going soon.
Thank you for getting back to me so soon.
Judy
