FIC VA-503+ board and AMD K6-2 chip. HSP 56K winmodem. No serial mice will work. Remove modem card, and W95 incorrectly detects comm ports, lpt ports and FDCs.

Switch to PS/2 mouse. Works ok when installed as std ps/2 mouse. As soon as I add the WinMouse A4 drivers, Device Mangler registers a conflict between PS/2 mouse and AF mouse driver (with fuzzy yellow exclamation point tail) and then incorrectly detects and adds WinMouse (with fuzzy red x where tail should've been.) If I delete the caution (yellowed out) device, the mouse no longer works (conflict with IRQ12.) If I delete the warning (red crossed) device, W95 keeps reinstalling it. Am I always going to have such a screwed-up-looking Device Mangler?

Would I have been better off with 3 blind serial mouse but trying to move the winmodem to IRQs 13-15? Is it true that winmodems gobble up all serial (and field) mouse resources (feed, exercise wheel and cage?) Should winmodems continue to be blamed for floods, fires and earthquakes?

Have software engrg background, MS certs and am crazy. Also an accomplished registry hacker. Is there any way to clean up the droppings in Device Mangler without feeding the mice to my cat?
