From my experience vxd errors are caused by a defective ram or an overheated cpu (an overheated video card also but generaly the mesage should contain a reference to the video driver -something like error on s3.vxd or something like that). On the other hand it could be anything but i would bet on this two.

i had this error with a few other vxd's as i found out the other vxd errors was the core cause what i done to fix it was updated my sound card n graphic card divers. you may be better off writeing down the other errors and trying to fix them as thay may be the core to the problem. if u have errors with other devices directx may have trouble reading ram and it will throw up a VMM..
its worth a try

an Vxd error invariably refers to HARDWARE problems, the first place to look is Device Manager RIGHT click on "My Computer" icon From menu that appears select "properties" In the dialog box that appears select "Device Manager" tab. This will detail hardware installed. look for any marked with an Exclaimation or Question Mark. If any found, click on the "+" to open the sub-heading of device and then click to highlight it, then click on "Properties" button. Check the Device status, post back what you find.
