WARNING: OPINION! OPINION! OPINION!

Hi, Craig,

As I type this, no one else has replied to you, so I'm going to make a plug for OTHER products, and try to convince you to turn your back on The Dark Side.

I hate to be the one to ask the question, but WHY do people INSIST on calling CHANGES to systems that work well "UPGRADES"? Who ever said that Windows Media Player 9 is an improvement over anything else? It is a Micro$oft product, so it is likely to CAUSE more problems than it solves. Don't believe me? Why are YOU having problems with WMP9? Why does a MICROSOFT product cause such problems with a MICROSOFT OS? You don't think you're the ONLY person having trouble with WMP9, do you?

Try WinAmp http://classic.winamp.com for audio files, and IrfanView for just about everything else http://www.irfanview.com. Be sure to download and install the IrfanView plugins while you're at it. Just follow the directions in the readme file, and you'll be flying in no time.

Break the shackles, Craig; you deserve BETTER than some bloated, fourth-rate throw-away "applet" from M$. There are some great FREEWARE products available that DON'T "break Windows" like the JUNK shovelled on us from Gates and his gang of idiots.

Take a walk on the wild side; next thing you know, you'll have a motorcycle and more FUN than you've ever had before.

One more thing; run DxDiag; Start / Run, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes), then click on the "OK" button, and see which version of DirectX you have on your system. A co-worker suspects that might be part of the problem with getting WMP9 to work, but I REFUSE to install WMP9 on any of my (Windoze) systems, so someone else will have to be the guinea pig.

Good luck, and please let us know what you decide to use. The VAST majority of software problems I see on a daily basis consist of people using M****$*** products with a M****$*** operating system. You're pretty much STUCK with the OS, but you can CHOOSE to use something that ISN'T intrusive, that WON'T hog all of your system resources, that WON'T hijack all of your system settings, and save yourself the trouble of installing / uninstalling / REinstalling that BLOATED GARBAGE, just to find out that it STILL doesn't work right.

Thank GOD for Linux!

HTH

Pete

It`s possible that the burning plug-in is conflicting with some other burning software that you have installed.

Thanks. What kind of motorcycle do you suggest that I buy? But seriously, how do I get irfanview to be the default when I want to watch an mpeg or avi off the internet? It still goes to original windows media player. Also, I downloaded 9.0 the same day as I installed a Sony CD burner/DVD player. If it's the burner software how do I deal with that? Thanks, Craig

I`m not sure about WMP9, but in 7.1 the burning plug-in was an optional install that you could uncheck. I think that it could also be uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs. Run WMP9 setup again, it may give you an option to remove components. Otherwise, uninstall WMP9 completely and stick to 7.1. You can separately download the WMP9 codecs for use with 7.1 from Microsoft, the file is WM9 Codecs.exe.
