I had this problem and it was associated with the Windows Logo screen that displays during start up.
Try editing the win.ini file as follows under the [windows] section at the top insert the line:- logo=0 (that's a zero).
Here is a 'copy' from my wini.ini file

[windows]
load=
run=
NullPort=None
device=Lexmark Z23-Z33,LXAIPR,USB001
logo=0

Don't know how proficient you are - but you can find the win.ini file by using the 'find' facility and then double clicking on it and it will appear in 'notepad' ready to edit.
It's a good idea to get rid of this logo screen as if there are any other error mesages at start up they can sometimes be hidden behind the logo.

Sorry -sorry, I made a mistake with the first message, the file in question should be the msdos.sys file NOT the win.ini file

Edit the msdos.sys file as follows:- under the [options] section add the line:- Logo=0 (that's a zero).
Here is an extract from my msdos.sys file

[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C

[Options]
BootMulti=1
BootGUI=1
DoubleBuffer=1
AutoScan=1
WinVer=4.10.2222
Logo=0

Don't know how proficient you are - but you can find the msdos.sys file by using the 'find' facility and then double clicking on it and it will appear in 'notepad' ready to edit.
It's a good idea anyway to get rid of this logo screen as if there are any other error mesages at start up they can sometimes be hidden behind the logo.
If you have already edited the win.sys file it won't have had any ill effects, but I would remove the line.
