A General Protection Fault is an addressing error, caught by the processor's memory protection hardware, that cannot be attributed to any expected condition such as a page fault.
I can`t find any listing of a VS16.dll- is this the exact name? If so, I`d recommend uninstalling/reinstalling your scanner and scanner programs.

I have encountered similar problems with my scanner. Frequently my scanner will not work due to the error message "...a general protection fault occurred in module VS16.dll". For your information, VS16.dll resides in C:windows folder and is dated 1995. This is an outdated file but I don't where to find a replacement. I've have gone through the exercise of uninstalling, installing and updating scanner related software but nothing works. Scanner manufacturer blames software and visa-versa. All deny its their problem. Pretty typical behavior in today's world.

Got same problem using program Vistascan V2.45 with Umax 1220P scanner. Interference from Chooser95 dialer program. Must be 16 bit piece of crud code. See www.umax.com for upgrade download & good luck

My UMAX scanner worked fine until I tried to use it after a month or so standing idle. Now I get the same message and its just sitting there useless. I assumed I've installed a piece of software that clashes with VS16.DLL memory address but I cannot find out what. Anyone resolved this yet ?

I've got the same issue too.
The only thing I changed was installing a new soundblaster, Saitek Joystick.
