vnetsup.vxd,vredir.vxd,dfs.vxd missing are missing. And I can't find them in my cab folder on my Windows 98 CD.

Where do I get these?

Thanks

Did you just install a NIC in your computer. those files are for network protocals.

put your win98cd win the cdrom, goto the control panel and click on network

remove your NIC from the list and re-boot your computer. it should find your NIC and copy files from the win98 cd and restart. the problem should be gone

I had the same problem last week! The actual problem is not that those files are missing, but that your computer looks for them and can't find them. This is what you've got to do to solve your problem:

- Go to START - RUN
- Type 'regedit'
- Open 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE'
- " 'System'
- " 'CurrentControlSet'
- " 'Services'
- " 'VxD'
- Delete the following keys: 'VNETSUP', 'VREDIR' and 'DFS'

You're problem should be solved after this! I also got another error message telling me that msnp32.dll is missing and the dinamic library can't be loaded. Have you got this problem too? Cause I know how to solve it...

Thanks Michiel and everybody for your comments.
I had the same probleme, and I solved it in an opposite way.
At the begining, I had *.vxd's problem AND msnp32.dll's problem.
I cheked all the drivers of my networks'cards in the window "System" in the Panel, and I configured my network, and the *.dll'sproblem disapeard.
and right after I used regedit as Michiel very well explained to remove *.vxd'sproblem.
If what I told you does not work, just ask me, because I did many things, so it probably miss something.

You are welcome.
and salutations from France ;)

you can also just make new *.vxd's with the name of the missing one, so you just make vnetsup.vxd,vredir.vxd,dfs.vxd and the other missing files, and set them in you c:\windows\system map.

sorry for my bad englisch :P

The easiest way to repair these files, and/or their associations from windows is:
Go to control panel, add/remove programs, windows setup, click on communications, then remove dial up networking, hit apply, restart your computer, when back to windows again, go to control panel and add dial up networking. Apply this and restart, the problem should be fixed.

I added the "Client for Microsoft Networks" service without having a network card installed. I installed the network card to see if that would fix the problem, it didn't. I also deleted vredir.vdx and dfs.vdx from my registry, and it did get rid of the two error messages. However, I am still getting the error message "unable to load the dynamic link library msnp32.dll, the system cannot find the file specified, some or all of the following feature is not available, Microsoft Network." Since this computer is going to be added to my network you can see my problem. My main objective is to get this computer ready for a network, what steps do I need to take?

Thanks,
Alan

SOLUTION FOR ERROR MESSAGES ABOUT THESE FILES: dfs.vxd, vredir.vxd, and msnp32.dll (WINDOWS 98).

DFS.VXD, VREDIR.VXD:

"Start" Menu > "Run" and type in sfc. This starts the "System file checker".
Select the "extract one file" option.
Type in the name of the first file you are missing (with the .vxd extension) and press "start".
A window will appear with the destination and source paths requested. Type in :\win98 for the source and C:\windows\system for the destination.
Repeat the process again substituting C:\windows\system\vmm32 for the destination path.
Do this for every file reported missing.

MSNP32.DLL ERROR

"Start" Menu > "Configurations"/"Settings" > "Control Panel" > "Network" > "Configurations"/"Setting" Guide > CLIC "Microsoft network client" AND "Microsoft products logon" > CLIC "Remove" button > CONFIRMS AND RESTARTS THE MACHINE.
: : : : : ATTENTION: IF USES NETWORK RE-INSTALL THESE COMPONENTS/ITENS. ("TO ADD..."/"ADDITION...")

For: DFS.VXd and vredir.vxd and msnp32.dll

: Try these...

: Install and remove network components. To do so, follow these steps:

: In Control Panel, double-click Network.

: Click Add, click Adapter, and then click Add.

: In the Manufacturers box, click Detected Network Driver. In the Network Adapters box, click Existing NDIS2 Driver, and then click OK.

:
: If you have not entered a workgroup name and a computer name previously, you are prompted to do so. If you are prompted, fill in the appropriate fields on the Identification tab.

:
: Click OK or Close until you return to Control Panel. When you are prompted to restart your computer, do so.

:
: In Control Panel, double-click Network.

:
: Click the network adapter, and then click Remove.

:

Fellas You are taking the lomg way around the block. All you have to do is delete the protocols in network neighborhood. In other words remove client for Microsoft, Windows Family logon and windows login from the list. Click OK you are then prompted that your network is not finished do you want to continue? click yes and reboot when prompted. After reboot re add client for microsoft only in network nei. click ok and reboot. the errors will go away
