Sorry for another problematic post.... but I've reformatted, and reinstalled windows 98 SE... I was having problems the last couple times with some VXD files, it seems concerning SoundBlaster Live! 1024, and a UMAX scanner... not to mention my USB ports were a little bit iffy...

But, I havent installed the drivers for the sound card yet, have left the scanner and other devices out of the USB ports... and I'm getting this fatal exception pretty often when using the internet:

"A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C001409B in VXD VMM(01) + 0001309B"

I looked through some other posts about that particular VXD file... but either the links that were provided are dead, or I get a blue screen and termination of IE when getting there.

HELP?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

(hopefully if I get this fixed, I wont be blocking up this board with more novice posts)

Just did a quick google search and best it could come up with is older driver files for video or sound card need replacement.

Not to worry about posting valid questions, that's the purpose here, we ALL had to learn these things and most of us have lots to learn yet.

VMM.VXD is a file constructed by the install process and therefore can't be copied back in from a generic source.

Might be easiest to run windows setup again to install over itself. Don't let it try to go to a new directory like windows oo1 or such. Point it to your present windows folder.
Leave out the USB and sound card 'til after you get the main works going. add them in one at a time once the rest has settled in a bit.
DO have you display adapter and mobo chipset drivers handy to add in if called for again.

ok, what i think u should do is to reformat one more time but this time phisically remove periphial devices ( sound cards, ethernet cards, etc.) and put them aside make sure ur STATIC-FREEEEEEEE before u touch anything inside the computer .. thank U.. now format, once u have Win98SE installed, put in and install one periphial decive at a time.. that'll do it... and if u cant find ur dirvers, u could find them here www.windrivers.com, driverguide.com and driverzone.com....

I would suspect faulty RAM.
Can you acquire other memory to test with.

I have a Dude. whos computer im working on.
PIII 800. He is getting the exact same error.
Fatal Exception OE 0028:C001409B In VXD vmm(01)+0001309B
Is the first one
Fatal Exception OE @ 0028:C1897839 In Vxd WDMDRV(01)+00000 D59
He also gets this one but not often.
Im just guessing that it would be the Video Card overheating.
Anyone else know. Mainboard etc has already been replaced. For problems that he had before.
He was actually playing the sims or other games when it happend.
Anyone have any other ideas what it could be. PLS send me an email
