greetings..you good folks have helped me before with great success. so I think this mite be easy to answer. I bought this computer used as is for $100.00 with printer and scanner. it works perfect but jumps to a blue screen just once in awhile, and the color resolution seems stuck on one resolution. but the person I got it from said he suspected a worm or virus, so I installed a new norton av, but no virus indicated. BUT !! it will give this at different times>>> mm task msg srv 32.exe at 0001.00000 6dd. I looked this up on google and it say's sure enough it's some kind of worm or virus. could some one verify this for me, and best way for removal if that's what it is...thanx very much for all you'r help..charlie

I hope response #1 does the trick, but I thought I should mention that there is a Security & Virus form (top left).

Good luck

Hey charlie! How are you doing?

In reading your error message:
"mm task msg srv 32.exe at 0001.00000 6dd", it seems as if this information can be interpreted in more than one way.

Mmtask is a very simple 16-bit program used by certain multimedia drivers (which are still 16-bit on Win9x) to perform background processing. Some soundcards need this to support MIDI, etc.

Msgsrv32.exe is a program that runs invisibly on the Windows desktop and performs several background functions necessary for Windows operation. Its valid version is found in C:\Windows\System.

In essence, Msgsrv32.exe, and Mmtask.tsk are all Windows core components and should NOT be killed nor deleted.

If the error message is related to Srv32.exe and OPASERV, then follow the link in response number 1.

If the error message is related to Msgsrv32.exe, and you have something by that name in a LITMUS sub-directory of Windows (C:\WINDOWS\LITMUS), then you have something else to be concerned about as far as viruses go.

Take a look at the Registry (Start>Run, key in: regedit) and see if the following values are there:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run
LTM2 = %Windows%\Litmus\MSGSRV32.exe

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run
LTM2 = %Windows%\Litmus\MSGSRV32.exe

Have a gut feeling that this is not a virus, but then, hey, could be totally off key on this one.

Let us know.

OOOooops sorry I didn't post this in virus section. I think this question is ok>>>actualy I'm having fun learning this computer science. the main concern rite now is the screen resolution will not change from 640x480 and the little slider won't move, it only shows 16 colors no other options. I know how to do some basic navigating inside the computer, but nothing compared to what you folks know so I looked on the adapter tab and it says...standard pci graphics adapter (vga)I know the monitor is (svga) cause I bought it new about a year ago. I would realy like to fix this resolution problem and then tackle the possible virus issue...thanx so much for you'r help and patience. charlie

VGA is very basic, you need to re-install and/or update your graphics card drivers.

Need to find out as much info as you can about what kind of video card is installed on the PC.

If you can connect to the internet with the computer that has the problem, download BelArc Advisor or, there is also a progam called AIDA.

These will give you info on the type of card installed, etc. If not, try a good old screwdriver to open up the case ;-)
