I was accessing the net with a work computer and I think I accidentally downloaded some kind of internet tool bar. It started giving the internet problems, so I uninstalled it. When I did that though, the system crashed, and when I reboot, the windows 98 first run screen comes up and asks me to put in the serial number, user name, so fourth. I'm scared if I do this, it'll mess up the computer even more. is this a virus? how do I get rid of it? I can't start in safe mode, and I need to get this thing running pronto.

Turn on the computer. Before the OS starts to load start tapping the F8 key. A menu should come up. Choose 'command prompt only'. At the c:\> prompt type:
scanreg/restore
and enter. Choose a registry to restore with a date that precedes your installing the software. There's probably only registries for the last 4 or 5 days so if it's been longer than that it won't work.
Also this won't restore deleted files except system.ini and win.ini so it's not a cure all but it's probably a good first step.
If the scanreg/restore doesn't fix it, post back info on the toolbar or the file you downloaded.
