There is a problem with the printer. It would not print from Word but then printed from Wordpad once but would not print again. It then printed from Notespad but would not print again. It then printed from a dos page but only once. It will not print from any program now. Anti virus programs cannot find a problem. The printer will print when the power button is held down for an installation test and the printer has been reinstalled.

I've never heard of a virus doing this.

AS the printer will run its self tests, it is likely that it is not the problem. Check the connectivity. If you can, try another printer cable.

The connections and cable have been checked. The printer printed normally three times but then would not print again from those programs. Something has been changed somewhere and the program such as wordpad can be reinstalled but will not print again.
How can those programs be selectively disabled?

You will need to look at the printer control aplet. Start, settings, printers. Is your printer set to default? Double click on the icon, are there any print jobs spooled there? Has the print queue been paused? Can you print a test page?

The printer has been set to default (a second driver installed) and set to print direct to printer.
It will not print a test page but the problem is that it will only print once from any source.
Am going to try printing from a program installed on a CD.
Could a print .ini setting be deleted by something? Where would any setting like that be stored?
