virus changes .docfiles to .doc.exefiles

Since yesterday I can't open any .doc-files anymore! When I open a .doc file (in Win98) it changes automatically to a .doc.exe file. I read somewhere that this is the cause of a virus and that it can be fixed by installing the exefix08.zip file. I tried to download it from a site, but WinZip says it's a corrupt zip-file. Does anyone know what I should do to fix this problem? I really need to open these files!!!!

Since you already know the cause(a virus), get rid of it. Run you antivirus program with updated definitions. Exefix fixes registry entries AFTER the virus/trojan has been removed BUT the registry has not been corrected.

Thanks for your answers, but I already fixed it. I ran an online virus scan (that was incredibly fast btw) and it found the BLEBLA-virus and destroyed it. I deleted the infected files, so I hope my problem is solved.
