Hi,
What is the standard ratio for RAM and Virtual Memory?
For a P3/1 Ghz, with 128 MB virtual memory is defined 384 MB, still its giving error for virtual memory.
How much should be Virtual Memory for this PC.
Thank you all.

do you mean you have 128 megs real and 384 virtual, or 384 real and 128 virtual?
ratio of real:virtual should be 1:2 or 1:3 or so ... but why do you want to set the amount yourself?? windows is very good at handling virtual memory, so let it handle it!! if you really must, try setting the virtual memory to 1 GB and see if that clears it

Hi y'all,
Here is an interesting page, covering vcache, swapfile, and vittual memory..

There is no standard ratio.
The swap requirements depend on the type of apps you run, how big they are and how many you run simultaneously.
"still its giving error for virtual memory"
Post back the exact error message and when you get it.
BTW Have you set the MIN/MAX parameters already? If so, what are they?

Let windows handle your swap file and you will not have any problems. Putting maximum limits on the swap file can cause problems.

It all depends on how much u run at once, if you run big programs i recoment atleast a gig o vertual memory. Windows somtimes is bad at manging V.M. so i set mine to 5gigs. It run fine...I also have 386 megs of ram so that helps to.

Hi,
Thanks for the above posts.
have 128 MB Real Memory and 384 MB Virtual Memory.
I have earlier opted let windows manage Virtual Memory, when I got this message I chaged this 1:3 and made it 128:384 as suggested by some one.
Thank you all for your help.

If you feel you have any need to use manual settings at all then leave the max alone and set a minimum in system.ini
This will reserve a block without the restriction of a maximum.
