Just was wondering....when i checked my virtual memory setting in windows which is set to let windows manage it i noticed that it says -28416.I don't think i ever remember it saying - or maybe i never noticed.I am using a program which i think is pretty good and it has a tool for managing virtual memory. It has to do with swapfile size and it is set as follows......
minimum swapfile size:
minimum allowed:32mb
reccomended:768mb
It does say space available on drive c is 37111 and you can customize the swap file size or you can choose no swap file.So i guess my other question is what is the purpose of the swap file and how should i have this set up for optimum performance.Thanx in advance.I can always count on the people here.

With 512Mb of memory, just let windows manage your swapfile. No settings are neccessary. Do a search in this forum for "swapfile" or Virtual memory" and read what's there. There is a ton of information.

The purpose of the swap file is to allow some capacity in case you run out of RAM. The swap file provides a chunk of HD for this purpose when necessary, but it will be much slower than RAM which is dedicated chips.
Set your program's tool so that it does not fiddle with your swap file. As Dan says, in your instance there is no need to do anything except let Windows manage it. Unless you are a power user Windows is only likely to set aside a very small amount which is in "preparation" for possible use.
In the relatively unlikely event that your system wants more swap file, then Windows will arrange it.
