hi everyone:
i just installed win98 on an old toshiba tecra 8000 laptop for a friend. the computer used to have NT on it. fdisk, formatting, and windows installation went fine, but the viewable screen size is extremely tiny. i can't find any device on the laptop itself to change viewable screen size, and the desktop properties have the resolution set at 640x480, with no other options. the screen was normal when NT was on it, so i know the laptop is capable of having a fully viewable screen. does anyone know what i can do to fix this? thanks in advance.

You need to get a hold of the drivers for the graphics and any other devices on your laptop (sound, modem etc), you may also have to change the monitor driver aswell.
Try here to find drivers for your laptop.
hope this helps

Hi ann, Biz, hello everyone
I used to have one of those Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop's provided by my employer.
If I remember correct, the best resolution is 800*600, but as mentioned by Biz you'll need to install the appropriate drivers first.
If I'm not mistaken the laptop can also be used with the resolution of 1024*768, but you and your friend will get sea sick with scrolling up and down through the screen.A direct link to the downloads for this particular laptop is:

(the plain-text link is to long, to post here like I am used to, sorry.)Maybe a good idea to add it your and your friends favorites.
Filter by Operating System and/or by Category.
Also take notice of the menu on the left hand, for detailed specs and/or User guide.Or are you trying to tell us, that the screen currently has a "big" black border around the Windows desktop, i.e. it's not showing full-screen?
